2009
Larry Fitzgerald (Pool MVP) had a record-setting post-season with 546 yards
receiving and 7 touchdowns.  The man throwing him the ball, Kurt Warner,
threw for 1,147 yards and 11 touchdowns.  28 rosters had the duo of Warner-Fitz,
who combined for 179 fantasy points and outscored the total team score of 88% of
the rosters that did not have either player.
PESCATORE, one of the 28 entrants to
select the duo, won  the Fantasy Playoff Pool Championship.  He also had the top
scoring running back, Darren Sproles, who had 256 yards from scrimmage and 3
TDs.  His other RB, rookie Tim Hightower, also scored 3 TDs.
PESCATORE used the
Arizona defense, which had a TD, 2 safeties, 13 forced turnovers and 9 sacks.
PESCATORE actually lost the Playoff Pool lead in the fourth quarter of SB43 to James
Yu, but regained it for good one play later.
2008
A.I.C. wins the Fantasy Playoff Pool.  He had the top QB and Pool MVP, Eli
Manning, who threw for 857 yards and 6 touchdowns.
A.I.C. made big investments
in RB LaDanian Tomlinson ($11) and TE Antonio Gates ($6).  Both battled injuries
and for a combined $17 salary only contributed a combined 18 fantasy points.
Ironically, with limited cap space remaining
A.I.C. needed cheaper players and found
the two highest scoring WRs, both at $5.
A.I.C. was the only entrant to have the top
2 WRs, Amani Toomer (280 receiving yards/3 TDs) and Vincent Jackson
(300 receiving yards/2 TDs).
A.I.C. found another bargain with a $3 rookie RB,
Ahmad Bradshaw.  Bradshaw had 208 yards rushing and a TD.
A.I.C. got a combined
111 fantasy points for a combined $13 in salary from from Bradshaw, Toomer and
V-Jax.
A.I.C. got a huge effort in the Championship week from his other WR, Plaxico
Burress.  Burress had 11 catches and 154 yards receiving in the NFC Championship.
Burress also had a TD catch in the last minute of SB42.
2007
The Fantasy Playoff Pool Championship goes to SNOOP, who led by a double-digit
margin throughout SB41.  While Indy went on a 4-game roll to a Super Bowl victory,
SNOOP got 113.5 combined fantasy points from Indy’s tight end (Clark), Kicker
(Vinatieri) and defense.   Dallas Clark had 317 yards receiving and outscored all
other tight ends by 15 fantasy points.  Adam Vinatieri had 14 FGs and outscored all
other kickers by 22 fantasy points.  The Colts' defense had a TD, 13 forced turnovers
and 8 sacks and led all other defenses by 14 fantasy points.
SNOOP also had the
top QB, Peyton Manning.  Peyton compiled 1,034 yards passing, but was picked off
seven times, while throwing for only 3 TDs.
SNOOP got 412 yards from scrimmage
and 2 TD from rookie RB Joseph Addai and had the top WR, New England’s Jabar
Gaffney, 244 receiving yards/2 TDs.  Gaffney had only hauled in 11 catches all
season for the Pats.
DANNY PIC finished in third place, 16 fantasy points back in his
bid for a repeat Pool Championship.  DANNY had 80.5 less fantasy points than
SNOOP out of the TE and Kicker positions combined.
2006
In the most tightly contested FANTASY PLAYOFF POOL ever, only 6 fantasy points
separated the top 5 scoring entries and it was
DANNY PIC who emerged victorious.
A record-breaking 75-yard TD run by Fast Willie Parker in the 3Q of SB40 put DANNY
PIC in the lead for good.  Each of the top 5 entries had the Pool’s 2 top WRs,
Carolina’s Steve Smith (Pool MVP) 335 receiving yards/5 TDs and Pittsburgh’s Hines
Ward (Super Bowl MVP) 260 receiving yards/3 TDs.  At RB,
DANNY PIC had FWP
with 306 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs and DeShaun Foster, who had 205 yards
rushing before breaking his ankle in Week 2.
DANNY PIC’s QB, Ben Roethlisberger,
was the top scoring player (72 fantasy points).  Big Ben threw for 803 yards and 7
TD passes.  Roethlisberger also ran for two scores.  DANNY PIC ranked in the top 10
after each week of the Playoff Pool.
2005
The Fantasy Playoff Pool was decided in the last two minutes of SB39.  ALEX JOICE
got a 30-yard TD catch from Greg Lewis with 1:55 remaining to overtake
DV SGT. for
the Playoff Pool lead.  It was the latest lead change ever in the Playoff Pool.  In the
first year in which the number of players/defense from the same NFL team was
limited.
ALEX JOICE had the maximum number of Patriots with six.  JOICE had a pair
of Patriots at WR, Deion Branch (Pool MVP) 264 receiving yards/2 TDs and David
Givens, 104 receiving yards/3 TDs.
JOICE also had Pats’ QB Tom Brady, who passed
for 587 yards with 5 TD passes.  Brady also ran for a score.
JOICE also had the Pats’
kicker (Vinatieri 5 FGs/10 XPs) and the Pats' defense (11 forced turnovers, 6 sacks
and a TD), both the top scorers at those positions.
ALEX JOICE was the first Fantasy
Pool winner without a RB playing in the Super Bowl.  His most productive RB was
Warrick Dunn with 201 yards rushing and 3 TDs.
2004
The MAGICIANS sprung out to lead the Playoff Pool with a 93-point Divisional
Playoff round.  After 2 playoff games, Peyton Manning (Pool MVP) had 681 yards
passing with 8 TD passes.  On the following weekend (Championship Round), the
MAGICIANS only managed 41 points despite 8 active players.  Peyton had 1 TD
pass and was picked off four times.  Nevertheless, the
MAGICIANS entered SB38
with an 18-point lead and with 7:06 remaining in SB38, they still held a 17-point
edge , but the
MAGICIANS eventually needed a tiebreaker to hold on and win the
Pool.  In the 4th quarter of SB38, the highest scoring quarter in SB history, the
BLACK
CATS
got touchdowns from DeShaun Foster, Mushin Muhammad and Ricky Proehl
and 2 TD passes from QB Jake Delhomme.  Proehl’s TD catch, which came with 1:13
remaining, gave the
BLACK CATS a share of the Playoff Pool lead.  Proehl had not
scored a fantasy point in his 3 previous playoff games.  The score remained
deadlocked to the end and a 'total yardage' tie-breaker was used to determine the
victor.  Diller’s
BLACK CATS had begun SB38 behind by 52 fantasy points and in 17th
place.
The
MAGICIANS, who win the title, had the top QB, Peyton Manning  (918 passing
yards/9 TD passes), the top RB, Edgerrin James 281 yards rushing/3 TDs, and 3 of
the top 4 WRs (Harrison, Muhammad and Stokley), who combine for 825 receiving
yards and 8 TDs.  Also on the roster is John Kasay, who had 21 more fantasy points
than any other kicker.
